Brooksie 1/2 Marathon Racewalk Results
Six Pegasus racewalkers – Paul, Tom, Mike, Dan, Princetter,
and Marvin – all performed well, including 5 first place and a
second place age class finish. Five of our team were in the
top 10 of ALL 88 racewalkers.
Paul had the best overall time among ALL racewalkers.
Princetter had the 2nd fastest time among 64 women.
Mike, who fell twice but bounced back up and hardly lost a
step, finished 7th overall despite bleeding knees, elbow, and hand
at the end of the race. Fortunately, and remarkably, he was able
to speedwalk and bike for over an hour the very next day!
Pegasus Racewalkers Very Competitive With Runners
Princetter had a better time than most 65-69 female 1/2
marathon runners and probably could have beaten ALL 14 of
her age class 5 km runners. Best time was 37:56.
Mike is faster than all but 4 of the 14 65-69 5 km runners.
Only 4 broke 36 minutes. Marvin’s 5 km times are better than
all but one of the 75-79 5 km runners, 4 of whom were over
40 minutes.
Bob could have easily outpaced the two 80-year-old 5 km
runners. Best time 42:37.
Dan beat all the 1/2 marathon men over 72, except (??) a
96-year-old runner who was listed at 2:32!! Is this possible at
96?? With his best time under 30 minutes, Dan could have beaten
all 11 70-74 5 km runners, none of whom broke 30 minutes. Only
3 runners even broke 40 minutes.
Learning an Important Lesson
Beware of too fast a pace. In pushing very hard to keep
up with Mike for the first 11 miles, my legs almost gave out.
If I didn’t slow down for the last few miles, I would have risked
my legs buckling and having to crawl to the side of the road
and not able to finish the race. Our 10 mile time was 2:01;
my best long-distance time and a 3 minute improvement for
Mike over his Crim result.
